Outstanding Educator Award Winner 2016!

We are so excited to see that our amazing counselor, Mrs. Hurt, was elected as the Outstanding Educator of the Year for 2015-2016! Our class nominated her for this award. We wrote out our evidence on the nomination forms as a way to write for an authentic purpose! We could not be more rewarded than to see our nominations be so persuasive. What a thrill. Mrs. Hurt deserves this recognition and we were happy to play a part in this surprise!

Some of the evidence presented by the students:
1) She helps us with Kelso's Choices.
2) Mrs. Hurt teaches us what a small and big problem is and how to respond.
3) She is nice to me.
4) She helps us with our problems.
5) Mrs. Hurt invites people to eat with her at lunch. We play games.
6) Mrs. Hurt is responsible for training our staff on the Positive Based Interventions and Support which is a school-wide behavior plan that keeps the students safe and happy here at school. This PBIS program has spread district-wide.
7) Mrs. Hurt helped the school district purchase Second Step which helps teach social skills such as: Skills for Learning, Empathy, Emotion Management, and Problem Solving.
8) Mrs. Hurt oversees the Navigator Club which helps a small number of students check-in and check-out before and after school, so that they have an extra set of eyes on their behaviors and homework completion.
9) Mrs. Hurt was responsible for organizing the Parent Academy for Student Achievement here at Emerald Park. This is an organization that helps guide parents navigate their children through the Kent School District with support and success.
10) She is a parent in our learning community.

We LOVE Mrs. Hurt!
