A kindergarten parent and her son were accidentally raising pollywogs all summer. She offered the classes some of their tadpoles. I accepted - gladly! I was so excited to bring life science into our classroom.
Once we got them, we needed to figure out what to do with them. How does a scientist go about housing tadpoles? What are their needs? What do they need to eat?
We came up with these and other questions. Then we did some research with books and online sites.
We also studied the lifecycle of a tadpole and found that they hibernate in the winter, so we knew we couldn't keep them for too long.
One of our students even wrote a poem about our friends, the tadpoles.
